Car care tips after having it parked up most of lockdown

Has your car been parked up for a long-time during lock down? If so, this can have a big impact on the condition of your car, even if it has been parked up for as little as one month. To ensure both you are your car are safe when going back out on the roads again, there are certain things that you should check. These include:

The battery

Check your battery to ensure that it is not dead. If your car is experiencing difficulties when starting, this could mean that the battery is dead. There are ways to charge your battery if this does occur. However, it could also mean that the battery needs to be completely replaced.

To avoid any future problems with your car battery, we advise that you turn the engine on and let it run for approximately 15 minutes every two weeks.

Tyres

Checking your cars tyres is important for your safety. It is not a known fact, but tyres can wear, or the pressure can decrease, even if you are not driving it.

The most common problem is under-inflated tyres. Your recommended pressure should be displayed on either your driver side door, or in your vehicle handbook.

Window screen

Before you drive anywhere, make sure your window screen is clear from dust, marks or stains. This will provide you as a provide a clearer view of the road and what’s in front of you without any distractions.

Braking system

Ensure your braking system is in fully working order. We advise you check both the handbrake and the brake pedal.
